Dr. Karina J Baum is the Director of Global Education and a member of the Diversity Equity, Inclusion, and Global Education Office at Buckingham Browne & Nichols (BB&N), a K-12 independent school in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has a MA in Molecular Genetics & Biotechnology from the University of Buenos Aires, and a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology from Brandeis University. Her research on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and best practices in Global Education focuses on the use of case studies, applications of technology, collaborations beyond the classroom, design-thinking, culturally-responsive anti-bias curriculum development, and interdisciplinary learning. She has presented her work in numerous conferences and workshops and published in peer-reviewed journals in science and education and in an edited book. She received the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence (AASTE) in 2014 and the 2018 Teacher of Merit Recognition by the Regeneron Science Talent Search Competition. Formerly, Dr. Baum was an Education Fellow at the National Academies of Science, a Scholar at the Board of Science Education of the National Academies of Science, a Latinos for Education Board Fellow, and a consultant for Oxfam. She has been a fellow and faculty member of the Think Tank on Global Education at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Global Education Benchmark Group (GEBG) and is in the Latinos for Education Founding National Alumni Council.
She is passionate about science, environmentalism, cooking, gardening, film, photography, learning about different cultures, and travel.
Sarah McLean is the Head of Global Stewardship at St. George's School in Vancouver, Canada. Sarah is passionate about experiential education both inside and outside of the classroom. She is particularly interested in exploring the connection between purposeful integration of DEIJ and reconciliation into program design, and authentic community engagement experiences. Sarah is involved with student leadership programs, faculty education and coaching. Outside of school, she enjoys taking her two little kids on hiking trips in the forest, long distance running and baking (and eating) delicious cakes.
