See you next week!

June 20–24, 2023

Dawson School| Lafayette, CO

We are so looking forward to meeting you all on Tuesday, June 20th, in beautiful Lafayette, CO! We wanted to review some final details as you prepare for the Institute. Please read through to the end to be ready for this all-in experience.

Institute Schedule:

  • You can find a PDF of the Institute schedule on our website. Please note that changes to times and locations, might be necessary - we will do our next to give you as much notice as possible.
  • Check-in instructions are further down in this email, so read them thoroughly. Be prepared for a fully integrated experience! Please note the times and locations and let us know if you have any questions about the schedule. You will see downtime built into each day.

Chaperone App:

  • The Chapperone App is one of ISEEN’s partners and has generously allowed us to use their app for the duration of our Institute. We will use the app primarily for communication (i.e., schedule updates, change of meeting location, etc.) so it is important that you download the app and join the Institute group. Please follow the directions in this PDF to install Chapperone on your phone.

Pre-Reading/Watching:

  • Please watch this 4 minute video to learn a bit more about ISEEN.
  • We recommend engaging in some pre-reading to help provide you with some relevant context and self-reflection prior to the Institute, please click here for several short articles.

Travel Information:

  • The Institute will formally commence at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 20th.
  • Please plan to arrive at The Dawson School (The Innovation Center) to check in between 2:00 PM– 3:30 PM so you have adequate time to get settled before we meet at 4:00 PM on the Quad.
  • Driving directions to The Dawson School can be found here. Please park in lots 4 or 5. (10455 Dawson Drive | Lafayette, Boulder County, Colorado 80026)
  • The majority of you are likely flying into Denver’s International Airport. Please visit our website if you need information about shuttle options (you will want to book your shuttle in advance). It is a 30-45 minute drive from DIA to Longmont/Lafayette (depending on traffic and number of shuttle stops). Driving directions to The Dawson School can be found here. Please park in lots 4 or 5.
  • Airport shuttle options.
  • Travel Connections Sheet: Should you be interested in trying to coordinate shuttles and rental cars, or share the cost of transportation,  please click the link to add your information to a shared spreadsheet. Some of you have already filled in information/connections. It will be up to you to make connections based on this spreadsheet, so please check back on it and reach out to others traveling at similar times.

Institute Resources:

  • All relevant documents can be found in the Google Drive Attendee Resources Folder. Please note, in the interest of paper reduction, we will not have hard copies of any Institute documents, unless specifically requested in advance. We are assuming that you will access all documents electronically, or print copies from home.

Institute Attire and Weather:

  • Institute attire is summertime casual. Average high temperatures in Lafayette/Boulder in mid to late June are typically around 83ºF/28ºC during the day and 50ºF/10ºC during the evening. There could be a chance of showers, so please bring a rain jacket (just in case), along with layers, and comfortable walking shoes (for uneven, rocky terrain). You can find the current forecast here. Because of the climate and altitude in Colorado, it is important to remember to hydrate and wear sunscreen.
  • Runners, yogis and hikers will want to bring appropriate clothing and gear for these activities, as there will be optional group runs and yoga sessions.

Other Packing Suggestions Beyond the Essentials:

  • Running/yoga/hiking clothes and shoes and a yoga mat or towel
  • Rain jacket (just in case)
  • Saline nasal spray and lots of body lotion for the super dry environment (for dry skin and nasal passages).
  • Bathing suit (hotel has indoor pool)
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Sun hat

Other Prep:

  • Please bring a laptop or tablet and a pen and paper/notebook for note-taking/journaling to all sessions.
  • Come prepared for a “show & tell” session (Ex Ed SLaM) to share a resource, an activity or a tool (e.g., how you use the UN SDGs with your class) with the group. It doesn’t have to be a formal presentation (very casual), but please start thinking about what you would share. An "Ex Ed SLaM" is a short, high energy tutorial or demo of a pedagogy or practice. The word SLaM stands for: Sharing Learning and Mentoring.
  • ISEEN has a commitment to being as environmentally sustainable as possible. Please bring a reusable water bottle and coffee mug with you. We will provide water fountains and coffee to fill them up!
  • Follow us on social media and share your Summer Institute experiences! You can follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook (and don’t forget to join our Facebook group to connect and share resources with your experiential ed colleagues).

Additional  Info:

  • There will be daily (morning and afternoon/evening) shuttles from the hotels in Longmont to The Dawson School.
  • Wifi is available at The Dawson School.
